Welcome to Mrs. Thompson’s 3rd Grade ACE class!
I am really excited about the upcoming year and getting to know your students. I am sure it will be a good one. The following is a brief description of the units that we will be studying this year, time permitting.

First Unit Title: Bubble-ology
In this unit, students will use chemistry to discover the properties of soap film and the ways that soap film creates bubbles. Students will learn to distinguish fair and unfair elements of a test, improve their ability to design controlled experiments, explain how evaporation and surface tension affects a liquid’s ability to make bubbles, and apply their knowledge of color patterns to predict when a bubble will pop.

Second Unit Title: Independent Study
This unit is designed to aide students to become proactive rather than reactive learners. Students will set their own learning goals and come to the realization that they are able to do what is necessary to reach their goals.

Third Unit Title: Math Around the World
This stimulating unit uses games and puzzles from many continents to explore mathematics in a multicultural, international context. We will present the games in a festival form to the other third graders.

Creative thinking, logic, creative writing, and other activities involving the use of higher order thinking skills will be interspersed throughout the year.

Supplies that your child will need are the following:

  • A three-ring binder
  • Dividers
  • Loose leaf paper
  • Pencils
  • Small flash drive
  • If possible, a $5-$10 donation would be greatly appreciated.

Other supplies may be needed throughout the year. I will let you know if the need arises.

I am looking forward to a great year!
